Golden Sun is one of those series that I loved as a kid and that I'd been
debating on cosplaying for at least a good 3-4 years. I chose to do Ivan because I love his
design and he was one of my favorite characters. I seemed to really like the wind adepts.
The way the official art is colored, it makes the clothes look like the have a
sheen/shine to them. At the same time, I don't believe that Ivan would have been able to afford
clothes/materials that would have given that effect. Therefore, it was a bit of a challenge for
me to find materials that I thought would be appropriate for the character while also staying
true to the official art. I think I did a decent job at it.
The purple turtleneck was made out of a purple interlock. The top/cape were
made out of a strech cotton sateen and what I believe is poplin. The pattern at the front was
achieved using heavy interfacing. The cape detaches for easy storage and transportation. The
pants were made out of a burgundy polyester.
The shoes are actually midcalf boots from Walmart. The belt was made out of
quilting batting, a brown stretch suiting, foam balls, mesh wire, Model Magic, and paint. The wig
was bought from Milanoo, and the staff was made by my dad.
Overall, I'm quite happy with the costume. The bottom of the pants could have
been better made. I also need to find a way to keep the yellow/green top from riding up.
