Sakuraba Neku
My friend Ayu was the one who got me hooked on the game when she first got it. Although Neku is a bit of an asshole at the beginning of the game, I automatically got attached to him, and he was my favorite character all the way through. I threw out the idea of cosplaying from the series to Ayu for the con that was coming up, and I chose to do Neku. The shorts were easy to make. I don't particularly like sewing zippers into pants/shorts, but I've done it so many times now, that I don't really give it a second thought. Thankfully, I managed to make them the right waist size. I was a little worried about how to make them baggy, but the leftover material I had from Tegoshi's costume did the job for me. The dark part of the shirt was made out of a knit I found real cheap, and the middle was a stretchy cotton I think. The yellow was bias tape. For the collar, I put a layer of interfacing in the middle, and then just folded it over where I wanted it to fold. I kind of regret not glueing the interfacing into place as it moves around a lot, thus making the collar a bit annoying manage at times as it keeps falling. For the shoes, I found a cheap pair of imitation crocks that were the perfect shape. I then just made shoe covers for the shoes. Not the cleanest job in the world if you see them up close. The headphones were made with a headband covered in material and then the rest of it was made of layers of craft foam stuck together. The wrist band was actually a sock from American Aparel, and the mp3 player was made out of Model Magic. The wig was bought off of eBay, and then took hours to style. I had to style it twice before I was satisfied with it. Overall, I'm really happy with the way the costume came out. It's extremely fun to wear and very comfortable apart from the chest bindings.
