otakon 2008: friday convention report

I had planned to get up at around 8 and then take my time to get down to the convention center since there wasn't really anything I wanted to do in the morning. I ended up waking up at 7:30 instead without my alarm, so I figured I might as well go down a bit early.

I got to the convention center at around 9ish. I spent the next few hours just walking around. I was dressed as Trucy from Apollo Justice, and I was really happy with the amount of people that recognized me and took my picture. When 11 o'clock came around the corner, I wanted to go see the Yuri Lowenthal panel, but I couldn't find the room for the life of me, and I was too lazy to find a map. >.> In the end, I just walked around the con center until about 12ish.

Sadly, I lost one of the diamonds on the front of Trucy's dress without realizing it, and a bell ended up falling off. I wanted to fix it, so I went back to my hotel room to cool off and fix up my costume before the Phoenix Wright shoot. When I got back, the shoot was already in full swing. I got some awesome pictures, and met a few really cool cosplayers as well.

When the shoot seemed to be finishing up, I went back to my hotel room again. This time, to change into my Romeo cosplay. I got a call from Liz, and we decided to meet up. She was dressed as Anthy from Utena, but she was in the middle of a shoot when I met up with her, so we decided to meet up for lunch tomorrow at around noon. I was happy to see her again. ^^

As I had yet to explore the Dealer's Room, I decided to do some shopping. I ended up buying a lot more than I usually do on Friday, but I was content with all my purchases. I also bought a bunch of things for my friend Ayu. Unfortunately, they didn't have the wig she wanted, but I managed to find the Code Geass Lelouch figma figures that we both wanted. Before I knew it, it was just past 4, and my feet started killing me. Before leaving the Dealer's Room, I managed to get Yuri Lowenthal's autograph on a Code Geass poster. On it, he wrote “- Kimmy, I will live, no matter what” with an arrow pointing to the character he voices, Suzaku. That seriously made my day. I found it highly amusing, and he seemed like such a nice guy.

By the time I got to the exit, my feet were in so much pain that I decided to head back to my hotel room (slowly) to give my feet a well deserved rest. It also gave me a chance to drop off all my purchases, so I didn't have to go carrying them around with me. After relaxing for about an hour and a half, I got dressed as Romeo again, and headed back to the convention center.

My feet were still in a lot of pain, so I stopped at the place with the big ships and sat down for a while. Eventually, I went down to the fountains area, and then back up again, as the JE gathering was about to start. I was supposed to be meeting the friends I made yesterday there, but they didn't have time to come unfortunately. On the other hand, I had a lot of fun, I got to meet some new people, and I got to see Potetofurai again~! By around eight, a bunch of them decided to go and wait for the Jdrama panel, while I wanted to go and get something to eat.

Although my feet protested the idea, I remembered that there was a Vampire Knight shoot around that time, and the people I met yesterday were cosplaying from the series, so I figured I'd go and take some pictures, and hopefully they'd be there. Luckily, they were! After they got some pictures in, we sat and talked. We eventually decided to head inside where a bunch of people were dancing to the various anime dances (Caramelldansen, Hare Hare Yukai, Lucky Star, etc). A few of my new friends joined in some of them.

It started getting late, and one of them was starting to get tired, so we decided to head back to the hotel. They also had to start getting ready for the rave. Two of them came with me back to my room, and we said our goodbyes. I ordered room service, since I hadn't eaten since that morning (how I was still functioning is beyond me), and then I had to finish my Tianzi costume for Saturday!
